The slow decrease in gas rates in the last few months has seen lot of used-car customer bypass the costly hybrids in place of the Sports Utility Vehicle or SUV. A new study has proven that, despite the reputation of high fuel efficiency vehicles, customers are still buying the SUV. The facts show that consumers are paying attention to these vehicles. According to Larry Gamache, the Communications Director at Carfax, the institute that ran the study, “many second-hand SUV’s, even those with better fuel efficiency, are selling below market value because of the increasing supply on trader’s lots, so shoppers can be picky about the next automobile they pay for.”

He also discussed the boost in buyer activity at Carfax.com for SUV’s and crossover motor vehicles, some by as much as 3,000 percent. Carfax is a website that automobile consumers are encouraged to use to get the history of a given vehicle. The report contains such information as accident information and vehicle damages. In addition, the report also highlights such aspects as low mileage and the maintenance necessary to maintain the vehicle – all to help consumers in deciding if they are getting the best value for the vehicle of their choice.

So which SUV’s are receiving the most Carfax inquires?

According to the report, searches on the Kia Rondo SUV were up 3,600 percent when compared with the previous year, while the Jeep Patriots and Buick Enclaves sports utility vehicles rose above the 2,000 percent mark. Internet searches for the Mazda CX-9, Land Rover LR2, Saturn Outlook, Lincoln MKX and Suzuki SX4 saw an increase of 1000 percent and both the Hyundai Tucson and GMC Acadia SUV’s searches went above 900 percent.

More than 32,000 traders of North America donate to Carfax and thousands of free of charge reports are offered online for second-hand cars and SUVs listed by contributing dealers with such online merchants as AutoTrader.com, Cars.com, AutoMart.com and Yahoo! Autos.
