What Are The Best Stretch Mark Treatments?

Someone mention stretch marks? What is it about stretch marks that make some woman cringe? Why do so many care? The truth is, some stretch marks can actually fade over time, becoming less noticeable. With this in mind, some resolve to live with them, while others may try to cover them up with makeup and creams. But, may others, opt for more extensive treatments, such as laser surgery. But, what are the best stretch mark treatments available on the market?

Stretch marks are caused when the skins elasticity is stretched beyond its limits. This usually happens when a person grows to rapidly, like during puberty. Other times, people may experience rapid weight gain, like that during pregnancy. It is the dermis, the skin’s middle layer, that sustains the damage during these rapid growth periods. There are actually have three layers of skin: the epidermis, which is the outer most layer; the dermis, which is the middle layer; and the subcutaneous layer, which is the innermost layer.

Some people initially use topical creams to help with stretch marks. These creams are designed to make the skin more elastic and moist. You can find creams that contain vitamin E. lanolin, wheat germ oil, and cocoa butter. However, these creams only work if the skin is already stretched, helping it to stay soft and elastic.

Other people who have noticeable stretch marks, after trying lotions and creams, may seek laser treatments for a solution for stretch marks. The type of laser the surgeon will use is dependent on the color of the stretch marks. One type of laser procedure works to stimulate the production of cells that make pigment, while another laser treatment works to reduce stretch mark colors. There is also a laser procedure that promotes the production of collagen, which increases stretch mark elasticity, helping them to decrease in size. Blue light therapy treatments, used to treat acne as well, work to remove stretch marks with a combination of light and gels.

The bottom line is, there is currently no fail-safe, 100 percent way to prevent or eradicate stretch marks. But, a combination of therapies discussed above may dramatically reduce their appearance. Another thing to keep in mind about stretch marks is that they pose absolutely no health risk. They’re more of an imperfection than a threat.
